Program Structure
One of the most compelling and unique characteristics of the GDP·UCI initiative is that it is a very ‘broad church’ allowing active consultation and
engagement with all the GDP stakeholders in the pharmaceutical supply chain. Not only does it contain GDP and quality professionals, it appeals to
operators and experts in all areas of the pharma supply chain.
This has necessitated an organisational structure that encourages the engagement and interplay of the entire network; one that facilitates access
to the huge reservoir of GDP and supply chain knowledge and experience that this group represents collectively. The configuration not only needs
to reflect the broad membership base, it must support the program's collaborative and egalitarian constitution.
This has been achieved through the formation of a framework in which the initiative's Primary Work Groups (PWG) are supported by an extensive
array of Special Interest Groups (SIG) with both clusters operating under the banner of the Governance Council and supporteed by the Advisory
Board and a Neutral Trustee.
GOVERNANCE COUNCIL
The GDP-UCI is a democratically-governed network of independent companies with the Governance Council being the top tier in the GDP·UCI
structural hierarchy. The Governance Council is responsible, inter alia, for high-level policy, strategic issues and interpretation of the GDP·UCI
Framework of Rules & Regulations. It is further tasked with overseeing the overall development of the initiative, keeping the project on-plan and on-
time, interpreting the body's terms of reference, adjudicating on issues of dissent and upholding the doctrine, vision and integrity of the program.
ADVISORY BOARD
The Advisory Panel serves as an informal and independent sounding board for GDP-UCI ideas and strategic thinking in the form of a group of
recognised experts in the fields of pharma GDP/logistics that is supportive of the vision, guiding principles, and goals of the GDP-UCI project. A key
aim of the Advisory Board is one of providing focus to and, if necessary, challenging the output of the GDP-UCI Primary Work Groups (PWG).
NEUTRAL TRUSTEE
The GDP-UCI program is co-ordinated by a Neutral Trustee which is an independent 'special purpose' legal entity. The GDP-UCI Neutral Trustee acts
an impartial ‘umbrella’ body to co-ordinate and manage the network, to protect and maintain its fairness and freedom from vested interest and to
ensure it operates within the bounds of all appropriate competition/ant-trust, data protection and other blanket legislation.
SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS (SIG)
The SIGs are, in effect, mini-knowledge-hubs containing subject matter experts, regional specialists and other defined parties arranged as a support
matrix. The SIGs act on an extempore basis providing ad-hoc assistance and advice to the Work Groups, as and when required. Each SIG inhabits its
own workspace in the GDP·UCI Collaboration Platform.
